Overheard a couple arguing about the ending of 'Klara and the Sun' at the library cafe

I was grabbing coffee yesterday and the people at the next table were really into it, one said 'the whole point is that love is a choice' and the other said 'no, it's about what makes a person real.' They went back and forth for like ten minutes. It made me realize how much a book's meaning depends on what you bring to it. Has your book club ever split down the middle on what a story was actually about?

Actually, those two people at the cafe might have been saying the same thing in different ways. The choice to love someone is a huge part of what makes a connection feel real, especially in that book. My book club totally fell apart over "The Road," arguing if it was about hope or just despair.
