Paid $45 for a book club meeting guide and it flopped hard

I spent $45 on a fancy discussion guide for our book club's last pick, thinking it would make the conversation deeper. Instead, it had a bunch of questions that felt too academic and nobody really engaged with them. The best talks came from just asking each other what we thought out loud, no guide needed. Has anyone else bought a discussion tool that just didn't work for their group?

Skip the fancy stuff, keep it real and just talk like humans.

...and here I am trying to sound all smart and failing miserably. Honestly, my brain's default is "um" and "like" and trailing off... so this whole "keep it real" thing is actually a relief. The worst is when someone uses like five big words in a row and you're just nodding along pretending you get it. I've tried to be all impressive before and it just comes out sounding like a robot trying to pass a Turing test. Way easier to just be awkward and honest...
