My book press slipped and crushed a fresh cover in my garage workshop
I was using a cheap press from a craft store and the screw gave out, ruining a leather cover I'd just spent two days tooling. What's the most reliable press you've used for under $200?

My old C-clamp press has survived a decade of abuse.

Ugh, that's the worst. It feels like half the stuff sold now is just meant to look like a tool, not actually be one. I've had good luck with a used bench vise for pressing books, it's ugly but it hasn't quit on me yet.

Tell me about it. I swear they design this junk to fail right after the warranty ends. My grandpa's old tools are beat up but still work, while my new drill gave up after six months. It's all shiny plastic and no guts anymore. Buying used is the only way to get something that doesn't feel like a toy.
