My purple pitcher plant FINALLY bloomed after 4 years of waiting
I got this Nepenthes ventricosa as a tiny cutting from a friend back in 2021. It was just a sad little stem with two leaves. I kept it in my bathroom window in Portland because the humidity is better there. Last month I noticed a little bump forming at the tip of a vine. I got SO excited but tried not to get my hopes up because these can take forever. This morning I walked in and there it was a full on open bloom with that weird purple and green pattern. The flowers smell kinda like old cheese up close but I don't care at all. Has anyone else waited years for a carnivorous plant to flower? How long did yours take?

Isn't it wild how the best things in life are the ones you almost gave up on?

Wait hold on... did you say that thing smelled like old cheese? That's both disgusting and oddly fascinating at the same time @fisher.thomas. Really makes you wonder what else we're walking past that's doing its own weird thing underground.

Glad I read this because honestly I used to be the type who would get impatient and toss plants if they didn't do anything cool within a year. This made me realize I was missing out on the whole point of growing things. The waiting is part of the story you get to tell later. Your pitcher plant sounds like it was testing your patience on purpose and finally decided you deserved the payoff. That old cheese smell is just nature's way of keeping it real.
