Split decision on my fern after it dropped half its fronds in 3 days

My Boston fern lost like 20 fronds last week in my living room near the south window. I moved it to the bathroom for humidity, but now it's looking pale instead. Which side wins - was I overwatering or was the dry air the real killer?

Tough love" is right. My buddy had this fern that just sat there looking half dead for like 3 months no matter what he did. He finally just set it outside in the rain and ignored it for a week, and now it's greener than his lawn.
