Appreciation post: the $15 clamp I bought before the $60 one
Picked up a cheap Irwin clamp at Home Depot in Seattle to hold a splitting cutting board while the glue dried. It actually held better than the fancy quick-release one that stripped its gears after two uses. Now I just keep a spare of the cheap one and skip the upgrade unless I'm working with something really thick. Has anyone else had a budget tool outlast the premium version?

Laugh at that fancy tool all the way to the glue joint. Same thing happened to me with a torque wrench. Paid triple for the name brand, it gave out on the third lug nut. The cheap one from the auto parts store clicks away like it's got something to prove. Now my rule is simple, if it breaks fast, it gets replaced with the junk version. If it still breaks, then I spring for the good stuff. Saves me money on all the times I was just paying for a shiny box.
