I was ready to trash my $70 rice cooker after 5 months, then my neighbor in Phoenix showed me the little steam valve pops out for cleaning
Last month it started cooking crunchy rice every single time and I had already picked out a replacement on my phone at 11pm. Turns out the tiny gray valve on the lid pulls straight off and mine was caked with old starch, and after a 10 minute soak it works like new. Anyone else almost toss something just because they never read the manual?

That valve thing got me too. Mine was so gross I almost bought a new one before my kid popped it off and rinsed it. Five minutes of cleaning beats seventy bucks any day.
