Showerthought: I stopped judging weird food videos after I got hooked on one in July
I used to scroll past those 3 am recipe clips with the robot voice and think they were all fake, but last month I watched a 47 second video of a woman in Ohio making a hot dog with mashed potatoes on it and I couldn't stop rewatching. What got me was how the comments were all fighting over whether the pickle juice squeeze was necessary, and now I check that account's new posts before I even get out of bed. Is there one dumb food clip from this summer that turned you into a person you used to make fun of?
The worst part is it sneaks up on you. First you're just watching one clip to see if the mashed potato hot dog is a joke, and then suddenly you're deep in the comments at 1 am reading people argue about pickle juice like it's a court case. I did the same thing but with a lady in Texas making a nacho cheese casserole that looked like absolute garbage, and I watched it four times in one sitting. The real trap is the comments because you start caring way too much about total strangers and their strong feelings on squeeze bottles. Now I can't even make fun of those videos anymore because I'm the exact person I used to laugh at when friends sent them to me.
