That commenter who said my video transitions were 'jump cuts with extra steps' made me rethink my entire editing style.

I spent 3 hours on a 15-second clip trying to match their advice, and now I can't unsee how lazy my old cuts were, has anyone else had a random criticism completely rewire their process?

Did you actually see improvement in the final video after spending those 3 hours, or was it more of a mental shift where you just felt better about your process? I've had critiques that totally wrecked my workflow but ended up giving me way tighter edits in the long run. Curious if the end result was worth the time investment or if you're still tweaking it now.

Buddy of mine had a wedding video client tell him his color grade made everyone look like they had jaundice. He spent a whole weekend re-learning color theory from scratch just to prove the guy wrong. Now he's got a whole side gig doing color correction for other videographers, all because one rude comment at a tasting gave him the kick in the pants. Sometimes the harshest feedback is the one that sticks.

Used to think harsh feedback was just people being jerks and you should ignore it. But watching how that rude comment turned into a whole new revenue stream for your buddy makes me rethink that. A customer told me my work was sloppy once and I was ready to write them off as a pain in the ass. Instead I went back and tightened up everything they complained about. Made my shop run smoother and that guy ended up sending me five more customers. Sometimes the blunt truth is exactly what you need to hear even if it stings at first.
