That 'mystery object' trend is just people pointing at trash cans

I saw 15 videos in a row where someone films a random metal box in a field and acts like it's ancient technology. It's a drainage cover. I know because I looked up the patent from 1982 and it literally says 'storm water lid.' Has anyone else noticed half these viral 'unsolved' objects are just boring infrastructure?

Whoa, hold on... a whole afternoon? That's dedication right there. I guess I get it though, once you start thinking something's ancient or alien, you can't just walk away. But a sprinkler head... man, that's gotta sting a little. I bet you felt pretty silly after looking it up, but hey, now you know more about sprinkler heads than anyone should. It's like a curse, once you start seeing these things for what they are, you can't unsee the boring truth.

Okay but have you ever gotten so excited about a "mystery object" only to realize it's literally just a rusty sewer grate? I feel personally attacked because I once spent a whole afternoon researching a weird looking metal thing in my backyard. Turned out it was a 30 year old sprinkler head. I guess I'm just really good at identifying boring stuff now.

Wait, does that mean the weird metal box I found in the woods last summer was probably just a transformer box for the power company? I spent a solid three hours online trying to figure out if it was some kind of old military radio or a bomb casing. Now I feel kind of dumb because it was probably just sitting next to a power pole I walked right past. This whole trend really makes you see how easy it is to hype up something totally normal.
