Just realized my brick garden path is holding up better than I thought

I laid a simple herringbone pattern with some leftover pavers last fall, just for fun (you know, like this). We've had a wet spring, but the drainage seems fine and nothing has shifted yet. Any tips for long-term maintenance on decorative walkways? I'm worried about weeds popping through the joints eventually.

Yeah that "weeds popping through" part is the real battle. Heard a tip on a gardening podcast about using polymeric sand for the joints instead of regular sand. It gets hard when it gets wet, sort of seals up. Makes it way harder for seeds to take root in those cracks. Costs a bit more upfront but seems worth it for less weeding later.

My neighbor tried polymeric sand on his walkway last summer. @wilson.olivia, he said the same thing about fewer weeds. But he did mention it can crack if the ground shifts too much.

Ugh, typical... So your options are either weeding forever or watching your walkway turn into a puzzle. Pick your poison, I guess. At least the cracks won't grow dandelions.
