Found a grocery store in my town that sells 'ugly' produce for $1 a bag and it saved my meal prep
There is a little market on the east side of my town called Green Crate that I walk past all the time. I finally went in a couple weeks ago and saw they sell bags of bruised apples, bent carrots, and soft tomatoes for a dollar each. I grabbed three bags and spent $3 total, which turned into a big pot of veggie soup and two loaves of banana bread. The carrots were just curved, nothing wrong with them, and the apples made the bread sweeter than the ones I usually buy for $1.50 a pound. I have gone back twice since and now I plan my whole week of meals around whatever is in the dollar bin. Has anyone else found a store like this near them, and do you ask the workers when they restock?

Yes! The store near me does the same thing and it is honestly the best deal in town. Every Sunday they put out these big boxes of stuff that is just a little soft or oddly shaped and I grab as much as I can carry. Last week I got a whole bag of peppers that were just wrinkled and I roasted them up and they tasted fine, saved me like ten bucks easy. My trick is I always ask the guy at the register when the new boxes come in, and he told me it is every Sunday morning before they open. Now I show up right at 9 and get first pick. You should just ask the workers at yours straight up, most of them are happy to tell you.
