My rice cooker died mid-batch and it turned into a 2 hour stove top rescue
So last night I was making my usual 7 day batch of rice and beans for meal prep. Put everything in my old rice cooker like always, walked away to chop veggies, came back 10 minutes later to a burnt smell and the cooker just stopped. No warning, no light change, nothing. I had 4 cups of rice already half cooked with the broth and seasonings in it. Tried to salvage it by dumping everything into my biggest pot but the bottom was already scorched and it flavored the whole thing like campfire ash. Spent the next 2 hours stirring and adding water just to get it edible and then had to re-season everything because it tasted off. Ended up tossing half of it anyway. My question is, do you stick with an appliance after it fails you, or was this a sign to go back to basic stove top rice? I've been looking at the $25 microwave rice cookers on Amazon but part of me thinks I should just learn to do it right on the burner and save the counter space. Anyone else have a kitchen gadget betray them at the worst time?
