That $3 lentil bake beat my usual $12 casserole kit

I tried it after a rough week in Austin last Tuesday and the whole family asked for seconds, so has anyone else had a cheap pantry staple surprise them like that?

Exactly 5 bucks saved and honest to god I used to think cheap meant sad, not anymore.

Hold your applause for a pile of lentils. That $3 bake probably tasted good because you were exhausted and anything warm would've hit the spot, not because it was actually better food. Those casserole kits have real meat and proper seasoning, stuff your body needs after a long week, even if it costs more. You're also ignoring the time you spent soaking, chopping, and watching that thing bake, which isn't free. And let's be honest, kids will say they want seconds on anything if it means avoiding vegetables or getting to the dessert faster. Cheap meals are fine in a pinch, but they don't replace the convenience and nutrition you get from paying a bit more.
