Hostel dorms in Barcelona made me give up on saving $8 a night

I stayed at a 12 bed dorm in Barcelona last spring because it was $18 a night versus $26 for a private room in the same hostel. Figured I could handle noise and shared bathrooms fine. But two nights in, a guy came back at 4am drunk, turned on the main light, and started packing loudly for his 6am flight. Nobody said a word. Next morning I found out the hostel had a quiet floor with 4 bed rooms for $22. That $4 difference felt stupid. Has anyone else had a moment where going slightly less cheap actually saved their trip?
