Lost $40 on a shady bus booking site in Bangkok

I thought I was being clever skipping the official bus terminal and booking through this random website called 'ThaiGoEasy' or something like that. Paid $40 for a ticket from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, showed up at the pickup spot, and nobody was there. Total scam, no bus, no refund. Has anyone else fallen for those fake booking sites in Southeast Asia?

Filed a chargeback with my bank right away and actually got the money back after a few weeks. I also started only using official bus company sites or booking in person at the terminal. It sucks but now I always double check any random booking site before handing over cash.

Did you at least get a free t-shirt out of all that hassle? lol. At least your bank came through, mine would probably ask me to fax them a written apology first.

Faxing an apology in 2024 sounds about right for them lol. I'm just glad you didn't have to send a carrier pigeon with a blood oath.
