My bus stop chat led to a shared grocery haul
Met a neighbor while waiting and we now split bulk buys. Saving on staples has never been easier.

Isn't it the best when that happens? My friend down the street and I started doing the same thing last year. We put in one order at the big club store every other week and just split the giant packages of rice, paper towels, and laundry stuff right in her driveway. It cuts the bill in half and we don't end up with a closet full of stuff that goes bad. What kind of staples are you guys splitting up?

That sounds like such a smart way to handle bulk buying. My neighbor and I tried something similar with cleaning supplies, and it saved so much space (not to mention money). It really cuts down on that guilt when food goes bad before you can use it all. Plus, having a reason to catch up while splitting the order makes the chore feel more like a social thing. Glad to see others making it work too.

Totally. We even split the perishables now too, which seemed crazy at first. One week I'll take the giant tub of spinach and she gets the five pound bag of apples, then we swap the next order. It keeps us from throwing out sad vegetables and stops those extra trips for one missing ingredient that turns into buying stuff you don't need.
