Shoutout to the cash envelope method I saw on a Chicago bus

Honestly, I was riding the 151 bus last Tuesday and this lady pulled out three labeled envelopes for groceries, gas, and fun money. She told me she's been doing it for 8 months after her credit card hit $4,200. Tbh, I always thought cash was old school, but seeing her physically separate the money made the overspending click for me. I started my own envelopes on Sunday with just $600 for the month. My first week I've already skipped two impulse buys because I could see the cash shrinking. Has anyone else tried this after seeing someone do it in public?
