Unpopular take on envelope budgeting systems
Tried the cash envelope method for 4 months straight. Ended up spending $60 more on fees because I kept losing envelopes and had to replace the cash. Learned that digital tracking works better for my messy life. Anyone else find physical systems more trouble than they're worth?

Wait did you actually have to pay to replace the cash? Like the bank charged you a fee for new envelopes or you lost the envelopes with money inside? I get why digital works better for your life but I think the real issue is you weren't using the system right. Ive been doing envelopes for two years now and Ive never lost a single envelope because I keep them in a locked box under my bed. The whole point is that it forces you to be careful with your cash not that its easy and convenient. If youre losing envelopes left and right then maybe the problem isnt the system its just that you need a better way to store them.

Did you try putting them in a fireproof safe or just winging it with your junk drawer?
