Spent $200 on a boilerplate contract pack and it was useless

I run a small landscaping business in Austin and thought buying a bundle of legal templates from some website would save me lawyer fees. Tried to use one for a client job last week and it had clauses that didn't even apply to Texas property laws. Ended up paying my attorney $350 to fix the mess anyway. Has anyone else bought generic legal docs online and regretted it?

Wait, the template pack didn't handle Texas property laws? That's wild considering how different they are from other states... homestead exemptions alone can trip people up if they don't know the specific rules. I used a generic template for a Texas deed once and it totally missed the required notary wording for the spouse's signature.

Wait, did you say boilerplate or was it marketed as lawyer-reviewed templates? Honestly, I think a lot of those cheap packs just copy-paste old California forms and slap a new logo on them. Tbh they might have zero idea what Texas homestead laws even look like. Ngl I had the same thing happen with a lease template that totally missed the whole spousal signature notary rule you mentioned. It's wild how they act like one size fits all but then you end up paying double to get it fixed later.
