Spent 3 hours in a Houston courthouse because my LLC paperwork had my nickname on it instead of my legal name
The clerk looked at my ID, then at the form, then back at me like I was trying to pull some kind of scam, and I just stood there wondering how many other people get tripped up by something this dumb, so has anyone else had to refile because of a name mismatch?
Man that clerk stare is the worst, like you're trying to pull a fast one when really you just go by a nickname your whole life and forgot the bank and the state don't care what your friends call you. What gets me is how deep it goes, because once one form has the wrong name, every form after it has to match or the whole stack bounces, so now you're not fixing one paper, you're chasing down a chain of them. You probably could've saved yourself the trip if someone warned you up front that the legal name on your ID has to show up the exact same way everywhere, no nicknames, no shortened versions, not even a middle initial if the state doesn't use one. Bet a ton of folks hit this same wall, they just don't post about it.
