Why does nobody talk about compostable trays making meat go bad faster?

Lots of shops are using compostable trays now to help the planet. But in my shop, these trays get soft and fall apart in the cold case, especially with juicy cuts like steaks. When that happens, the meat drips and can spoil quick, meaning we toss more out. I think using reliable plastic to cut down on food waste is actually better for the environment.

Line the bottom of the tray with a piece of waxed deli paper before you put the meat in. Stops the juices from soaking directly into the cardboard. That tray won't get as soggy and fall apart so fast. Lets you use the compostable stuff without the waste.

Spoiled meat is the worst feeling.

Honestly, I have to disagree with @young.thomas on this one. Adding wax paper just creates another thing to throw away, which misses the whole point of compostable packaging! The real issue is the trays themselves. We tried them for our ground beef and chicken, and they turned to mush overnight. All that spoiled meat is a huge waste, both of food and the resources that went into making it. Sometimes the old plastic trays just work better for keeping things fresh.
