Found out my $60 thrift store leather jacket was made in 1974 and the guy who sold it to me knew
I looked up the label inside my coat and found a whole forum thread about it, turns out the brand shut down in 1981 and my specific style goes for $300+ online now. The old guy at the flea market in Chelsea charged me 60 bucks and didnt blink. Has anyone else found out way later that a cheap pickup was actually worth way more?
That seller probably knew exactly what he had, and honestly that's kind of on him for not doing his homework. Thrift and flea market folks who've been in the game for years can spot a good label from ten feet away, so either he was lazy or he just wanted it gone. The flip side nobody talks about is how many "rare" vintage pieces get hyped up by forum threads and sold listings that never actually sell at those prices. Asking $300 and getting $300 are two very different things. So yeah, you got a deal, but don't count that money until someone actually pays it.
