Switched from hand sanding to a DIY vacuum hookup last month

For 6 years I was doing all my finish sanding by hand with a block, took forever and my shoulders hated me. Last month I rigged a shop vac hose to my orbital sander using a 2 inch PVC coupling from Home Depot in Austin, cost me 4 bucks total. It pulls the dust right off the surface and I can see the grain clearly now, cuts my sanding time on a standard kitchen cabinet door down to maybe 15 minutes instead of 40. Has anyone else tried a homemade dust collection setup, or should I just break down and buy the $200 Festool unit?

That $4 PVC fix probably beats that expensive unit for home use.
