Oh man, did you get the grit and grime pushed deeper into the pivot points? That's the classic toothbrush mistake (I did it too, on my first house). You need a soft brush and a vacuum to pull the dirt out, not scrub it in. A detail brush for car interiors works way better, honestly. Just hold the vacuum hose right next to the brush as you go.

Betty_perry24 is so right, my old keyboard still has beach sand in it from that same mistake!
