Pro tip: old hair dryer trick for lens fungus
Last Wednesday I pulled apart a 50mm f1.8 that was full of fungus. I tried the usual hydrogen peroxide and UV light method but it was taking forever. So I grabbed my wife's old hair dryer and set it on low, aimed it at the opened lens barrel for 8 minutes. The warmth killed the remaining spores and dried everything out fast. Has anyone else tried heat instead of just waiting for chemicals to work?

Funny how a little warmth solves problems that waiting around can't fix. Same thing happens with sticky drawer slides and key locks sometimes, a bit of heat just loosens everything up. Nice when household stuff doubles as gear tools.

Yeah totally @wood.uma, I used a hair dryer on a stuck zipper once and it worked like magic.

Is it just me or is half of life just learning that friction is the enemy and heat or lube is the answer? Once you see that pattern it shows up everywhere from car engines to stuck cabinet doors.
