Slowly realized my lens cleaning cloths were doing more harm than good
I thought those cheap microfiber cloths from Amazon were fine until I inspected one under a 10x loupe and saw it was full of tiny grit that was scratching my coatings. Has anyone else found that spending $15 on a proper Zeiss cloth made a real difference?

Ten bucks says that grit was probably metal shavings from the factory floor.

Actually used to think it was just normal dirt or whatever gets kicked up on a job site. Then I helped my buddy clean out his shop vac after he was cutting some steel beams and the bottom was like a layer of fine metal dust. Totally changed my mind after seeing how much of that stuff settles everywhere. You're probably right that most of that "grit" people find is just manufacturing leftovers.

Ive seen this exact thing with my own shop vac, and the amount of metal dust that piled up was honestly shocking even after just one day of grinding. @alice_allen5 you're totally right, it changes how you look at all that fine dust you normally just ignore. I used to think it was just dirt too until I actually looked close enough to see the sparkle in it.
