Vent: I keep seeing people use the wrong screwdriver on Minolta X-700 battery covers

That tiny JIS screw strips so easily if you use a Phillips, and I've had three come in this month where the cover is just chewed up. What's your go-to source for those specific replacement covers now?

Honestly, how bad is it really? I've used a small Phillips on mine for years and it's fine, just be careful not to push so hard. People make it sound like the camera explodes if the screw head gets a little worn. It's a battery cover, not the film advance gear.

Yeah, I learned that the hard way on my own X-700. I ended up finding a donor camera for parts at a local camera swap meet, got the cover for a few bucks. Online, I've had decent luck just searching "Minolta X-700 battery door" on eBay, but you gotta check the seller photos really close to make sure it's not also stripped.

You know, I used to be right there with you thinking it wasn't a big deal... until my door just wouldn't stay shut anymore. The plastic threads inside the camera body can wear down too, not just the screw head. @mark_green has the right idea checking those seller photos close, because a stripped body is a much bigger headache than a bad door. It's one of those things that seems fine until it suddenly isn't.
