Changing my mind about that Kevin Hart apology from a few years back

I used to be in the camp that said his apology was fake and he was just trying to save his career. But then I watched that whole interview he did with Joe Rogan back in 2020, like the full 3 hour one not just clips. He went into detail about his old comedy routines and how he genuinely didn't realize how harmful those jokes were at the time. What got me was when he said he sat down with his daughter and had to explain why people were mad at daddy, and that moment made him actually reflect. I still think he handled it poorly at first with the whole not apologizing thing, but the way he talked about growing up in Philly with that old school comedy scene where you just roasted everybody without consequences made sense to me. It felt way more real than those PR statement apologies celebrities usually put out. Has anyone else changed their mind about a public figure after seeing a longer interview like that?

explain why people were mad at daddy" - wait, that actually hit me different reading it like that. Ngl I always wrote off that apology too, thought it was just damage control after he lost that Oscars gig. But hearing that he actually had to sit his kid down and break it down? That's heavy. Makes me think he's legit been carrying that guilt around for a while, not just doing a quick apology tour. Tbh I might have to go watch that full Rogan interview now because that detail alone changes everything for me.

Has he actually said sorry to his kid though, or just told the story? I had to do something similar with my nephew after I lost my temper at him over something dumb. Sat him down and told him I was wrong, that adults mess up too. It was awkward as hell but it made a difference. The kid remembered it more than the actual argument. So if he really did that with his daughter, that's probably the real work right there.

idk, isn't it kinda sad we're this impressed by a comedian just being a normal dad for once?
