Shoutout to the guy who told me to stop cold applying and start reaching out to people I already knew

After 50+ online apps got me zero callbacks, I messaged 3 former coworkers about openings at their companies and had interviews within 2 weeks. Has anyone else found that your network beats job boards every time?

Wait, THREE former coworkers all came through? That's wild to me because I've had the opposite experience (ha) where I reached out to like six old colleagues and got one "I'll keep an eye out" that went nowhere. Makes me wonder if I just worked with the wrong people or if I was asking wrong. Maybe I should try again since you made it sound so easy.

Ugh, I feel that so hard @wood.uma. I reached out to like five people from my old retail job a few years back and got dead silence from four of them lol. The one who did reply just said "good luck" and that was it. It honestly made me feel kinda dumb for even asking. But then I tried again with a different group from a different job and actually had better luck, so maybe it really is just about who you worked with. Don't give up yet, seriously some people just suck at responding.
