The 6am phone call rule that fixed my morning scramble
I used to start every shift at the warehouse in Portland answering emails in bed, took me 45 minutes to even get dressed. My lead told me to set one alarm labeled 'shoe time' and leave my phone in the kitchen, so I'm forced to walk there and grab it. Has anyone else tried a physical cue like that to cut the morning daze, or am I just weird?

The "shoe time" alarm trick works because it forces your brain to commit before it can argue. I did the same thing with my coffee maker being in the garage, the walk kills the phone scroll before it starts. Just make sure the kitchen isn't also where you keep the snacks, or you'll trade one daze for another.

the walk to the garage thing only works if you dont have a backup plan. i tried the shoe trick but my phone followed me to the bathroom, so i ended up scrolling on the toilet with shoes on. maybe the real hack is making the bad habit physically painful, like a rubber band on the wrist that you snap every time you reach for the phone. boring but it actually hurts enough to make you stop.
