TIL my salary negotiation script was leaving $8k on the table
I found this stat on a labor economics blog last week, people who ask for a specific number instead of a range get 8% more on average. I always used the classic 'I'm looking for something in the 70-80k range' line. Turns out that anchors them to the low end every time. Switched to naming a hard number in my last offer call and the recruiter didn't even push back. Has anyone else tried the no-range tactic and seen it work or backfire?
