Went back to my old job site in Toledo and saw they replaced the whole crew with one guy and a screen
Stopped at a coffee shop near my old office in Toledo last Tuesday and ran into a former coworker who still works there. She walked me through the building and the shipping desk that used to need four people is now one person watching a dashboard. She has been there 11 years and is now training her own replacement software. For anyone who has watched their role get trimmed down like this, did you stay and learn the new system or start looking elsewhere?
That line about her training her own replacement software really got me, because it's such a strange spot to be in after 11 years somewhere. I feel for her, and I feel for you having to see it up close like that when you weren't even expecting it. Watching a place you knew get hollowed out is rough, and I hope she's at least getting something out of staying while she figures out her next move.
