Ripping thin strips used to scare me, until a guy on a Reno crew in Spokane showed me this trick
He said grab the scrap piece you just cut off and use it as a push stick, never touch the board with your bare fingers that close to the blade. I tried it on the next 50 strips of 1/4 inch oak and zero kickbacks, so now I won't cut anything narrower than my hand without it. Anybody else got a habit they picked up from a random site worker that stuck for good?
