Stopped using finish nails for baseboards after 20 years in Columbus

I used to set every baseboard with 18 gauge nails and pray the trim didn't shift overnight. Three months ago I switched to a pin nailer with glue and it cuts my install time by 30 percent on a typical 1,800 square foot house. The pins leave holes you can barely see, and the glue locks the miters tight so no more callbacks for popping corners. Has anyone else made the jump to pin nailers and glue for their trim work?

The glue trick alone changed everything for me. I run a bead of construction adhesive on the back of each piece before it goes up, then just tack it in place with the pins to hold while the glue sets. Corners stay shut because the glue is doing the real work, the nails are just there for the first hour. On longer runs I'll add a pin every 16 inches or so, but honestly the glue holds so well I could probably skip half of them. Tear out is the trade off though, prying glued trim off drywall can take some sheet rock with it if you're not careful. Still worth it when you're not driving back across town for a popped miter.
