Unpopular opinion: I clamped my miter joints wrong for 9 years and a cabinet job in Boise finally called me out
I always squeezed the clamp right on the joint line, thinking tighter meant better, but a guy named Dale on a kitchen install in Boise pointed out I was squeezing all the glue out and starving the joint. Turns out you clamp about an inch back from the glue line so the pressure pulls the boards together instead of crushing the edge. Had 3 doors on that job pop open a week later before I figured it out. Anyone else get taught to clamp right on the seam or was that just the shop I came up in?
