Power stretcher pin broke mid hallway, took 6 hours to fix

Last Tuesday I was doing a 40 foot hallway in a ranch in Aurora and the pin on my power stretcher snapped clean off. I thought it would be a quick part swap, but the replacement pin was out of stock at both local supply shops. I ended up driving 45 minutes to a dealer in Denver and still had to shim it with a washer to get the tension right. Total time lost was about 6 hours including the drive and fiddling with the fit. Does anyone carry spare pins in their truck or do you all just hope it never happens?

Man I feel your pain on that one, I broke a pin once and spent a whole afternoon trying to convince a strip of duct tape it could do the job, spoiler alert it couldn't. I don't carry spares but I do carry a bottle of extra strength ibuprofen now, seems to fix most of my problems after the fact. Six hours is rough but at least you didn't have to explain to a customer why you were installing carpet with a paperweight like I did.
