Took me 3 hours to seam a room that should have been done in 45 minutes
Had some cheap carpet from a big box store that just wouldnt stretch right. The seam kept popping up no matter how much I worked it. Finally figured out the backing was delaminating in spots but by then I had already wasted half my day.

Man, that sucks. My buddy bought some "warehouse deal" carpet from a big box store last year for his basement. He spent a whole weekend fighting with the stuff, seams kept failing, backing was literally crumbling in his hands. Finally had to rip it all out and buy from a proper flooring supplier, cost him double in the end. Never again, he says.

Crumbling in his hands." That's brutal. Was the carpet itself old or the padding underneath? I've heard that cheap padding can disintegrate like that too. Did he check the manufacturing date on the roll before he started? Some stores put old stock on clearance hoping nobody notices. Just curious if the whole thing was a dud or just the backing.

Read somewhere that big box stores often sell carpet thats already old stock. The glue degrades sitting on those pallets for months. Sounds like thats exactly what you got.
