I called out a cartoon plothole about characters never aging and my buddy pulled up a real clip that shut me up
Honestly I used to roll my eyes at the whole "cartoons never age" thing and thought it was just lazy writing. Last Tuesday I was arguing with my buddy Marcus about it at his place in Akron, and he pulled up a clip from a show where a character's little sister had a birthday in season 2 and was still in the same grade in season 9. Then he showed me another one where a kid got held back a year on purpose, which kind of fixes the whole timeline if you think about it. I went from being annoyed to actually respecting how writers sneak that stuff in. Tbh it made me want to go back and rewatch some old stuff just to spot the little clues. Has anyone else found a show that actually explains the no aging thing instead of just ignoring it?
That bit about the kid getting held back on purpose is actually a different trick than what you're describing. Getting held back means they repeat a grade, so they'd still be aging, just stuck in school longer. The real fix some shows use is a floating timeline, where time just kind of resets and nobody talks about it. Your buddy's clips were probably two separate things mashed together.
