Hot take: Painting over rust is the DIY version of a star's empty apology
I saw that actor's video where he looked sorry but didn't say what he did wrong. It's just like when I painted my fence without fixing the rust. Both are all show and no substance.

That's not quite the same though. Painting over rust at least stops it from spreading for a bit. A bad apology doesn't fix anything at all.

Hold on, you believe painting over rust actually stops it? That idea is wild to me. I tried it on my garden gate last year and it was a total fail. The rust chewed right through the new paint in just a few weeks. It doesn't fix anything, it just puts a pretty coat over a growing problem. So it's just like a hollow apology where the damage keeps spreading underneath. Both moves are about looking good now while ignoring the real issue.

Wait, you really think paint stops rust from spreading even for a little bit? That stuff bleeds right through the new coat, it's like it's eating it from underneath. Seen it a hundred times, the spot just gets bigger and uglier. So you're just putting a temporary cover on something that's actively getting worse, which honestly makes it a perfect match for a fake apology.
