Just realized why I trust 2015 apologies more than 2025 ones, and my brother called it out in one sentence
My brother works in crisis PR in Chicago and we were eating takeout last week when a clip of some singer's apology video came on the TV above the bar. I started doing my usual thing, counting the pauses and watching where his eyes went, and my brother just laughed and asked me when the last time was that I watched an apology with no cuts in it. I sat there for a second because I honestly could not remember one from the past few years. He told me that around 2018 or so, almost every star started doing that one-take, soft-lit, no-music thing, and it stopped being proof of honesty because everyone gets coached on it now. That hit different because my whole method of judging these videos was based on whether it looked raw, and raw is now just a style you can buy. So now I watch for something dumber and harder to fake, like whether the person says the actual thing they did out loud instead of some vague version of it. Has anyone else noticed this shift, or am I just late to it?
