PSA: The buzz about a famous actor shooting a movie on my street is wrong. I checked with the city permits office, and it's just a commercial for local insurance.

That's a good move checking the permits... I had a similar thing when everyone said a band was filming a music video nearby. I called the neighborhood council and they told me it was just a student project. Saved me from waiting around for hours...

Read that you can often look up filming permits on city websites now.

Always call the film office directly, they have the real schedule. Last year my friend wasted a whole day because some blog said a famous director was in town, but it was just a TV ad. Permits are PUBLIC record, so you can look them up online in most cities. If someone says they're filming, ask to see the permit paperwork. Legit crews will have it on hand. Saves so much time and stops you from chasing ghosts.
