That comment about my mic technique stung but fixed my whole approach
Someone on a stream last month said I sound like I'm holding the mic like a sandwich. I switched to a finger grip near the grille and the clarity jumped way up in my headphones. Has anyone else had a random critique that actually made their audio better?

Recording from the other side of the room" holy crap that's brutal but I bet it was spot on. That little grip shift really is like unlocking a cheat code nobody tells you about.

Ah man, that mic grip thing is huge... I got roasted a while back for holding mine too low and someone said it sounded like I was recording from the other side of the room. Switched to a tighter hold near the top and it was like night and day, the low end actually came through instead of getting all muffled. It stings in the moment but those little fixes stick with you. Glad you found that grip trick, it makes a real difference once you get used to it.

Honestly I feel like people make way too big a deal out of mic technique. Like yeah sure if you're holding it wrong it might sound a little off but most listeners aren't going to notice that tiny difference unless they're really listening for it. Tbh half the time those "roasts" are just people trying to sound like experts when they probably sound just as bad themselves. Ngl I've held mics every which way over the years and my recordings still came out fine because the room and the mix matter way more than exactly where your hand is. People get so caught up in these tiny technical details that they forget to just talk and connect with the audience. It's not that deep, you know?
