Bought a $300 thermomix knockoff that literally melted on day 2
Saw an ad for this off-brand blender/cooker combo thing for $300 and thought I was being smart skipping the real deal. It started smoking while I was making a simple soup and the base actually warped. Anyone else get burned by one of those cheap copies?

Tbh that sucks, @the_brian had a similar bad experience with a unit that didn't match the manual too.

Start by asking yourself what you actually did with that thing. Did you leave it on high for hours or cram it full of frozen stuff while the manual clearly says to thaw first? I bet it was user error, not the machine being junk. People expect $300 to buy them a miracle and then get mad when they treat it like a $600 model. These cheap copies work fine if you follow the instructions and don't push them past their limits. Maybe you just got a bad unit out of hundreds that work perfectly. How many other people have had zero issues with theirs?

Actually, the manual on my unit doesn't say anything about thawing frozen stuff first. I double checked before I used it. It says 'frozen foods can be cooked directly from frozen' right in the quick start guide. I think you might be confusing this model with a different one because I looked at a few before buying. Not all of them have the same instructions. Also, I didn't leave it on high for hours - the timer went off before the cycle even finished, so it wasn't a user timing thing. Just saying, sometimes the complaints are valid even if most units work okay.
