Question about plating feedback from a regular

A regular at my spot in Austin told me last month my scallop dish looked 'sad and lonely' on the plate. He was right, it was just three scallops with a swipe of puree. I started adding microgreens, edible flowers, and a citrus gel for color. Now I use at least five elements on every plate. Has anyone else gotten a simple comment that made you totally rework your presentation?

Happens all the time with stuff outside the kitchen too. I mean, a friend once said my living room felt a bit empty, and now I have way too many throw pillows. Sometimes you just need that one outside look to see the obvious thing you missed.

Honestly that's the best kind of feedback. A regular who cares enough to be honest. It pushes you to be better without being mean about it. That's a keeper right there.

But what if the regular is wrong though? I've had customers give "honest" feedback that was just their personal taste, not something that would actually make the thing better for most people. Sometimes you gotta trust your own vision even when someone means well.
