Got a $2,500 ticket outside Wrigley and learned something wild about Chicago parking law
Parked on Clark St near Wrigley during a Cubs game and came back to a ticket, but when I pulled the actual city code I found out Chicago has over 300 distinct parking violations on the books, and some of them carry fines that jump from $50 to $2,500 depending on the zone. I read this on the city clerk site while trying to figure out if I could fight it. Turns out a lot of those zones near the ballpark get special event rules that are different from normal street parking. Anyone here successfully disputed a ticket like this at the 44th Ward hearing, or should I just pay it?
300 separate parking violations? That is nuts, I had no clue the city had that many on the books. A $50 to $2,500 swing for basically the same kind of ticket is wild, no wonder people just pay it instead of fighting.
