Hot take: Getting a formal lease review beat a handshake deal with my old landlord by a mile
My friend and I both rented in Logan Square, but I paid a lawyer $200 to look over my lease while he just went with a verbal agreement. When the heat went out in January, my lease had a clear repair clause that got it fixed in 48 hours, but he was stuck arguing for a week. Has anyone else had a specific clause save them from a huge headache?

Watched my cousin get burned on a car sale with just a text message agreement. The "as is" part he didn't notice meant he was stuck with a dead transmission two days later. It really shows how those little bits of paper, or the lack of them, control so much of what we think is just trust between people.
