An old timer at the supply house told me I wasn't pulling enough brush on the downstroke and now I get half the dust I used to
He watched me three times on a job over on Maple Street last Tuesday and said I was rushing the return, so I slowed down and started overlapping my passes by about 6 inches each time, and the difference in how clean the flue is now just from that one change has been night and day, has anyone else had a simple tweak like that totally change their results?

My buddy runs a chimney crew and he was having the same problem, felt like he was chasing his tail all day. He finally had an older guy on his crew watch him for a morning and the dude just told him to stop leaning back so much on the push stroke. It fixed his back pain and doubled his brush life somehow, wild how small stuff adds up.

Yeah, the part about "doubled his brush life" got me... that's not really how brush wear works. Brushes wear from friction on the flue walls no matter how you angle your body, so leaning back isn't going to make them last twice as long. The back pain fix makes total sense though, bad posture will wreck your lower back for sure. That old timer at the supply house gave you solid advice too, overlapping passes is one of those things nobody tells you until someone actually watches you work. It's funny how the simplest stuff makes the biggest difference but you'd never figure it out on your own.
