My grandma used to keep a bucket of soot for her rose bushes
Honestly, nowadays everything gets bagged and tagged, but I still think of her every spring.

My neighbor taught me to chop up banana peels and bury them around the base. The roses loved it, gave them a real boost. I just use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut them into small pieces first. Makes a noticeable difference in how many flowers I get.

Freezing banana peels first makes them way easier to chop up for the garden. They go all brittle and just shatter when you hit them with a knife. Saves you from that weird sticky mess on your cutting board.

Still use coffee grounds for my roses, works great.

Ever wonder about mixing those two together? I tried layering coffee grounds with chopped eggshells under the banana peels last season. The roses went nuts, like the combo fed them longer. It seemed like the grounds helped break down the peels faster, and the eggshells kept slugs away. Felt like I hacked the whole natural feed thing.
