Old-timer told me to scrub caps with vinegar, I laughed for a year
Guy named Ray at the Denver supply house swore by white vinegar for creosote buildup on chimney caps, I thought he was pulling my leg. After I tried it on a stubborn 3-inch crust last month, that stuff dissolved it in 20 minutes flat. Anyone else had a weird homemade cleaner actually work better than the store-bought stuff?

Vinegar's basically magic for anything with calcium or carbon buildup.

My friend Karen used vinegar on her clogged showerhead and it worked perfectly.

Vinegar's great and all but let me tell you about the time my dad used Coca Cola to clean his car battery terminals. He poured a can right on the corrosion and it fizzed up like a science fair volcano. Worked good enough to get the truck started again. Now he swears by it for anything with rust or gunk, even tried it on an old lawnmower carburetor once. Why do people act surprised when common kitchen stuff beats overpriced chemicals, right?
